Ertjiesop met skaapvleis (pea and mutton soup)

Ingredients

  • Stew mutton
  • 1 Pack dry peas
  • Large onion
  • Celery
  • Carrots
  • Potatoes
  • Stock cubes

Method

  1. Put the dry peas in a bowl and fill it with water, place aside.
  2. Cut of most of the fat. Salt the meat.
  3. Heat a big pot or pressure cooker with a small amount of oil.
  4. Seal and brown the meat.
  5. Add the diced onion and brown.
  6. Add the chopped celery. Also add the water. The water should cover the meat.
  7. Add 2 stock cubes.
  8. Boil till the meat is soft. - With a pressure cooker boil for 30 minutes.
  9. Take the meat out and debone, add the flaked meat back into the pot.
  10. Grate the carrots and potatoes and add it into the pot
  11. Drain the peas and add it into the pot
  12. Add add more water to cover everything.
  13. Boil until the peas are cooked (you need to stir the pot and top up the water regularly to prevent it from burning).
