Dhal

Ingredients

  • Onions
  • Garlic
  • Lentils
  • Turmeric powder
  • Ginger
  • Cumin
  • Ground coriander
  • Garam masala
  • Curry leaves
  • Chilly
  • Chicken stock cube

Method

  1. Cook the lentils on a medium to low heat add the turmeric and stock cube, 2-3 cups water to 1 cup lentils. Add water whenever it is required.
  2. Skim off any scum floating on the surface, or the dhal can turn bitter.
  3. Cook until it turns soft.
  4. Sauté chopped onion until lightly golden and translucent. then add the ginger, garlic and cumin.
  5. Add the ground coriander, garam masala, curry leaves, and dry chiles at this stage.
  6. Combine with the cooked lentils.
